Do you ever have the feeling that something big is coming your way? That was my precise feeling yesterday afternoon, as I counted birds on West End Pond IBA.
The fact that an American Flamingo in flight is akin to a 747 passing overhead perpetuated that feeling. Fortunately, I looked up and lo and behold, the pink and black dinosaur was coming toward me. (It still didn’t help me get good photos!)

I last entered this species in eBird on January 17, 2025, but I have recorded and written about it many times over the last 10 years. My friend Miya Yoshida wrote a children’s book called: Anguilla: Martin’s Island Paradise.
My most recent post was in November of 2024.
The bird made two passes over the pond and then headed northwest. I checked a couple of locations to see if it had made landfall to no avail.
The good news is that it is out there somewhere. Hopefully, it will turn up again soon.
Flamingo 🦩 Watch is officially on!
Let me know if you see it around Anguilla in the comments below.
Welcome back Martin! Or it could be Scrub, Bart, Eustace or Saba...
Oh my!!! What a sighting!
