Well, it’s been a week!
When I left you last week, I was doing final preparations for the arrival of Hurricane Tammy. Despite my predictions of a Friday evening arrival, she didn’t show up until Sunday morning. It passed Anguilla approximately 55 miles to the East with 55 to 60 mph winds.
While my Irma PTSD subsided as the sun began to shine, reports of extreme flooding in Nevis surfaced. By six o’clock Sunday evening, the rain commenced. At ten o’clock, my house was rocked by cracks of thunder and lightning. Welcome back PTSD!
Without rehashing the circumstances, the power disappeared island-wide and didn’t return until Wednesday night.
While I was trying to survive without my creature comforts, the birds that live in my yard were going about life as if nothing was going on.
There were nests to be built!
The Turtle Dove Hill Belted Kingfisher power couple returned and were fishing in the wild seas.
Hummingbirds continued to feed on newly opened flowers.
Seabirds found Sprats to eat in the wild ocean and rested on the floating dock.
As we await the return of calmer weather to our shores, I am reminded that nature - and in particular, our birds - provide a calming presence during life’s difficult moments.
Take a walk on the wild side!
So glad that Tammy was not too destructive!
Fab pics! Especially the hummingbird - beautiful!
