It has been a few days since “Itty Bit’s” chicks hatched, and many of you have questions about what happens next. A new post seems like the best way to answer.
Antillean Crested Hummingbird chicks remain in the nest and are fed by the Mom for 19 to 21 days. She will feed them nectar and insects from nearby sources.
Once fledged, the chicks will remain with Itty Bit for up to four weeks, and she will continue to feed them on the branches for up to 2 weeks.
Since the chicks hatched, Itty Bit has busied herself with protecting the nest and gathering food. She doesn’t allow anything to get near her chicks, especially that pesky Pearly-eyed Thrasher.
Enjoy a few minutes of life for “Itty Bit” as a new mom.
I will update you as we approach a fledge date.
